Ian is currently manager of the three year SNAP initiative. The initiative is designed to deliver a socially inclusive development programme through three main areas
The Scottish Angling Leaders Award – to increase the number of trained volunteer leaders The Induction centre and Development cluster programme – To create localized delivery of a national programme, creating development centres and building a network of angling related partners around these centre. The Castaways Web Site - Providing a national web based club forum for young people, improving access to equipment, angling opportunities, angling and environmental education and eventually instruction.
He is also leading the Angling Governing Bodies along with sportscotland on the creation of a single plan for the future development of the sport and building a development structure to help implement ‘one plan’ for angling development. This will ensure SNAPs projects will be sustainable. Ian trained at Jordanhill College, Glasgow achieving a Degree in Sport in the Community and began his career as a countryside ranger at Muirsheil country park, He then moved on to a 14 year stint with Scottish Rugby working through the cross over from amateur to professional rugby and was heavily involved in the building of Scottish Rugby’s Coach education and youth development programme. Ian also coached international age group and senior international development XVs, as well as premier club and senior District teams with Dundee High School FPRFC and Caledonia District as well as representing his country in basketball and rugby.Ian is passionate about countryside management issues and, as well as being involved professionally, spends most of his spare time stalking, fishing, working his dogs, and occasionally finds time for a round of golf. |
