The Scottish Countryside Alliance Educational Trust (SCAET) will be running a further six ‘Next Generation Country Days’ in 2008. The days will take place at venues all over Scotland. During these days we bring up to 220 children between the ages of 10-15 years to different estates, which have been very generously loaned to the SCAET by their owners, throughout Scotland from the surrounding schools. There they will be split into groups and will be given the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge of the countryside and the conservation within it by being able to participate in the sports and work that allows it to exist. They will be introduced to conservation and biodiversity, shooting sports, fishing, game keeping, as well as given talks and displays about the use of working dogs, falconry and awareness of wildlife crime. In order to execute these days the SCAET has joined forces with registered and full disclosure certified instructors from BASC Scotland, Scottish Game Angling Instructors Association (GAIA), regional police forces, Scottish Gamekeepers Association (SGA) and local hunts among others. This year’s venues are as follows: Tuesday 27th May – Southwick House, New Abbey, Dumfries-shire Wednesday 28th May – Firniehirst Castle, Jedburgh, Borders Tuesday 3rd June – Carnell Estate, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire Wednesday 4th June – Duntreath Estate, Blanefield, Stirlingshire Tuesday 10th June – Dunecht Estate, Westhill, Aberdeenshire Wednesday 11th June – Alvie Estate, Kingussie, Inverness-shire We have approached all the schools in the vicinity of each event. If your child is keen to participate and has not heard through the school, please approach your teacher directly. We can provide information packs for you to do so – This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Each day is totally free to anyone between the ages of 10 and 15, and gives youngsters the opportunity to take part in fishing and target shooting, to learn about game conservation and wildlife crime, and to see hounds, gundogs or falcons in action.
